That, in turn, might be the catalyst for a current player to come out.

Also, I think that 2 years is probably a realistic projection, but I’m hopeful that it will be a lot sooner, as Matthew has suggested.

I really enjoyed it and I bet you had a blast that (Outsports) day. I do think, however, that Mr. Burke is way off on it being two or more years before any NHL player comes out. I’m sure it will be a lot sooner.

Of course there are gay players in the NHL. In above mentioned show, Georges Laraque said he personal knew 2 current players and Mark Tewksbury talked about a current player coming to him about coming out and they had the press conference all set and the player got cold feet the night before it was all supposed to happen.

How it should happen is exactly like Zach Quinto came out and when interviewed all he said was as a gay man, bullying is close to me, or something like that.

There should be no presser, no magazine covers proclaiming “I’M GAY!!”, just a player being honest about life.

I have to believe there’s at minimum, one gay player in the NHL, past or present.
The day will come eventually when an active player in a major professional sport comes out, and in this day and age I have a hard time believing that most fan bases would care if an individual is gay, as long as the player is talented and can help the team win games.
