You are not the only queen who is a Habs fan. Indeed you are not the only Matthew, as that is also my name (though I go by Matt or Matty) and I have a friend that lives in Montreal (french version or our name) who is a fan as well. I’m a bit more of a fan I must say, I’m there in the good and the bad (not like the bandwagon jumpers during the playoff run from 2 years ago).

It was refreshing to see a post regarding the Habs that was upbeat and positive rather than the constant negativity drummed out by the media. The team definitely has some positive signs and a core group of players that will serve them well given time. Gauthier has to go though, he has been doing some moves that are crazy, although I liked some (Cammy, Martin) the timing and lack of planning are interesting. The Cammeleri trade was a good move, sure Cammi has more potential offense and ability to score than Bourque but I think potential is one of those deceiving, “loaded” words. The pair of speedos I have in my underwear drawer have loads of potential, they looked great on the model online and they have the potential to look great on me. That potential has not translated into them actually looking good, hence they still have the tags on them. That Kaberle trade was a bad move and will haunt them in the future. Plus, are they rebuilding now? Or are they trying to get better to get in the playoffs? Are they clearing cap space to sign Subban, Price, Eller this summer? Who knows??

I agree with your assessment of the rivalry though. Those damn Bruins, shame there are so many Canadian boys on that team. I thoroughly despise Tim Thomas and watch the scores everytime they play hoping he lets in lots and lots of goals. I do have to say that I equally loathe the Leafs, perhaps moreso, and cheer against them everytime. It used to be the players that I didn’t like. Now it’s the team and especially their fans. What is it with Toronto fans? I suppose to cheer for a team with lots of money in a great city that has consistently disappointed you have to be diehard. I have yet to meet a passive Toronto fan. They are loud, obnoxious, and remind me of that annoying drunk person at a party that thinks they’re awesome that you want to go over and punch in the face or drag out of the room by their hair. Ok scratch that I hate Toronto more. They are the worst. Thanks for writing!
