Spend 10 seconds on tumblr and you will know that the players are just as objectified as the ice girls, if not more so. Also, I am close friends with some promo team girls. They love their job and do not, for the most part, feel objectified. Many of them are models, so they are used to (and embrace to some extent) the comments and attention. Those girls go into that job knowing exactly what they have to wear and do. It’s not like they were zamboni drivers who suddenly had new uniforms.

Totally in agreement with you about judging fellow female hockey fans, but your point about ice girls are a different story. Sure, fans occasionally make comments about the attractiveness about certain hockey players, but at the end of the day, they aren’t objectified like the ice girls are. It’s incredibly alienating ( for me, and I’d imagine a major portion of female hockey fans) to listen to the hockey fans next to you talk about what they would do to “the blonde one (ice girl)”. The percentage of female hockey fans are growing and nearing 50% of the hockey fan demographic, so maybe NHL teams should start adding some male ice shovellers wearing barely there shorts and tight mid-riff bearing shirts to their ice crews. But that would never happen, even if it did, I guarantee you there would be an OMG THINK OF THE KIDS backlash and just an outright sexist, homophobic backlash as well.
