The description of the job was quickly changed and it was then described as a co-ed Spirit Squad and not female cheerleaders and it was made clear that they would not be ice girls replacing the youth hockey teams cleaning the ice.

I think the complaints made the Caps reconsider what outfits could be worn so the Red Rockers outfits are not as skimpy as a number of other teams’ cheerleaders or ice girls. At the time, Ted said that the Caps had to have the Red Rockers due to unspecified demands made by unidentified sponsors, To this day, I still wonder which sponsors were so insistent. The Red Rockers do the same thing that the former namless co-ed squad did in throwing tee shirts, etc, and helping with the intermission games on the ice. The Caps need someone to do those tasks. With the addition of the standing room sections, I though the Red Rockers were not as noticeable when on the sidelines doing their cheer/dance routines, but they did seem more coordinated in doing their dance routines last season.

~ cheers…
