I imagine that the rough and rowdy, tough, macho boys on this team lobbied hard (pun intended) for the name to be the LONG ISLANDERS…sort of gets that whole size question out of the way.

Good post. I believe Brooklyn is at the western tip of Long Island (not eastern).
